HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Police have arrested a man in Henrico’s East End Thursday who was wanted for killing a woman in a North Carolina triple shooting.
Shakur Deandre Stephenson was wanted in the shooting death of gas station clerk in Ahoskie, North Carolina on August 3.
The clerk, identified as 23-year-old Lakiesha Sutton, was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and later died from her injuries, according to police. The other victim’s injuries were not considered serious.
Police said there was a fight outside Murphy Express Gas Station, when gunfire erupted. Police said Sutton was an innocent bystander and was hit by a stray bullet.
Family members tell WNCN the mother wasn’t scheduled to work the night of the shooting, but decided to work an extra shift.
Henrico Police confirms Stephenson was taken into custody a little before 6 p.m. Thursday at an apartment complex in the East End.
Led detectives in the case are expected to charge Stephenson with first degree murder and five charges of attempted first degree murder.
