PULASKI COUNTY, Arkansas -- A five-year-old Arkansas girl might miss the first day of school in order to recover after a vicious dog attack. Carmen Meadows was playing with her brother in North Little Rock when she encountered Buddy the dog, KTHV reported.

Carmen's dad was working on the roof when he heard screams. Then his son rushed to him and yelled Carmen was in trouble.

"There was a pit bull that had her on the ground, with her face inside his mouth shaking her,” Casey Meadows said. "She’s innocent. She’s five years old. She loves everything, so everything is supposed to love her back. And that's not the way life seemed to work for her yesterday."

Meadows called the experience traumatizing for everyone involved. He said he hoped his daughter would recover quickly and was thankful she was not killed.

"We don’t know if she’s gonna be able to start her first day of school just because of her condition," he said.

Pulaski County Animal Services picked up the dog and transported it to North Little Rock Animal Shelter. The dog's owner surrendered his pet which was then scheduled to be put down.

"Buddy gets along with everything," dog owner Linwood Sanders said. "That’s the first time he ever did something like that."
