HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police are searching for a gunman after a man was shot during an altercation in the parking lot of a Food Lion Saturday morning.
Police had taped off a large portion of the Oak Hill Plaza Shopping Center on the 3100 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike shortly after 10:30 a.m. Officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Shoppers and business owners had to hide in the back of stores after bullets went through front windows.
"I was in the laundromat and heard the shots," Robin Walsh said. "There were 3 shots. I ducked to the floor and called 911. The owner secured us in her office."
Witnesses said a Good Samaritan helped the victim after he ran into the Food Lion and collapsed.
"When he collapsed she applied pressure to her wound until the ambulance got there," Jacqueline Smith said.
The victim was treated on scene and transported to VCU Medical Center by Henrico Fire units. His wounds are not considered life-threatening.
Witnesses told CBS 6 that the man was shot after someone tried to rob him of his shoes.
Police are still on scene investigating and ask anyone with information about this crime to either call the Henrico Police Department at (804) 501-5000 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
