Chesterfield man charged with making bomb threat, assaulting officer

CHESTERFIELD, Va. – A Chesterfield man is accused of making bomb threats and assaulting a police officer during an incident at a Chesterfield home on July 26.

Investigators say Carl Banton Jr., 39, of Chesterfield, threatened to bomb a residence of two people who are known to him.

During the incident, police say Banton also stole some items from the victim’s residence. The items are believed to cost less than $200 in value.

When officers arrived to the scene, police say Banton damaged a police vehicle as they tried to take him into custody. They also say he threatened officers and assaulted an officer on two occasions.

Banton has been charged with two counts of assault and battery, destruction of property, petit larceny, two counts of obstructing justice, and two counts of threats to bomb or damage a building.
