SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Luke Aikins has made nearly 20,000 parachute jumps — but this one is like no other.

The skydiver, who did several jumps for the film “Ironman 3,” is attempting to jump from an airplane without a parachute or a wingsuit as part of the “Heaven Sent” special airing tonight on Fox.

Aikins is jumping out of an airplane over Simi Valley in California. After two minutes of freefall, he will attempt to become the first skydiver to safely land in a net.

The live (with delay) Fox broadcast started at 8ET. While the jump time is unknown, he’s expected to jump after 8:40 p.m. ET.

Aikins says he knows it sounds crazy, but after two years of training, he wants people to see that with hard work sometimes the impossible becomes possible.

The event can be viewed on the FOX NOW app and FOX.com(cable login required). (You can also stream the event using Sling TV, which has a one-week free trial.
