SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was employed at a day care center in Salt Lake City was charged with a felony for allegedly sexually abusing a 5-year-old boy left in his care, according to documents obtained by KSTU.

According to a statement of probable cause filed July 26, 19-year-old Carlos Rodriguez of Salt Lake City is charged with one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child as a first-degree felony.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and bail set at $75,000.

A mother who took her four children to the day care told police that in mid-March of 2016 her 5-year-old son came forward with some troubling allegations.

The boy told his mother, “Carlos rubbed my butt” and offered other descriptions of inappropriate contact, including pulling the boy’s pants down repeatedly.

When interviewed at the Children’s Justice Center the boy said, “I told him no but he did it anyway.”

The alleged abuse occurred on several occasions and during nap time, the child reported. Police contacted the day care center and were able to verify that Rodriguez was employed there and had been caring for the alleged victim.

The alleged abuse occurred at Destinations Children Center, located at 581 North Redwood Road.
