CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. — A new water park planned for the Outer Banks should be open by next summer. The park will be located on the west side of U.S. 158 in lower Currituck County, the Outer Banks Voice reported.
“The location of this development is critical to the draw and appeal of the water park,” park co-owner Arthur Berry III said. “By locating the property just off the Outer Banks it allows the area to retain its relaxed beach atmosphere, yet at the same time provide visitors with an easily accessible option for a one-of-a-kind recreational experience.”
Berry, and co-owner Kenneth Ellis, also operate Camelback Resort in Pennsylvania.
Plans for the 80-acre Outer Banks water park, according to the Outer Banks Voice report, include:
Multiple water slides
Wave pool
Adventure lagoon
Lazy river
FlowRider® surf ride
Children’s adventure area
“Traditional water parks of this magnitude typically handle 8,000+ daily guests, yet the OBX water park will set a maximum daily capacity of 4,000 – 5,000,” Berry said. “Capping the attendance ensures an unparalleled guest experience – unlike any other water park in the country.”
Construction on the water park is scheduled to begin in September.
