ASHLAND, Va. — One person was killed and five people were taken to the hospital in two-vehicle crash that closed lanes on Interstate 95 in Ashland, according to Virginia State Police.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The nature and extent of the injuries have not yet been released.
While the crash happened in the northbound lanes, it closed Interstate 95 in both directions near Route 54 — mile marker 92.
The southbound lanes have since reopened, according to VDOT. Two northbound left lanes remained closed.
Traffic was backed up seven miles at 9 a.m., according to VDOT.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
