GAFFNEY, SC — A Cherokee County woman is suing an Upstate thrift store after she claims she was hurt when one of the store’s chairs gave way when she was testing it out.
A Goodwill Store in Gaffney was presented with a civil action lawsuit after a woman claimed she was hurt after she sat in one of the chair’s on the sales floor, WHNS reported.
The woman claims in the lawsuit that she sat in the chair to determine whether or not she would purchase it and the chair gave way causing her to fall onto the cement flooring and suffer “great bodily injury.”
Before sitting on the chair, the woman said there was no warning or marking on the chair that it was weak or not designed to support more than a certain amount of weight. She believes that the chair had not been properly inspected prior to its being placed on the sales floor.
Goodwill said in a statement:
“Safety is a priority at Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina and is one of our core organizational values. Because this is an active case – and out of respect for the claimant and our judicial system – we cannot address the facts of the case at this time.”
The woman has demanded a jury trial for this incident.
