NORFOLK, Va. — The body of missing Navy Sailor Nickolas Atkinson was found Monday in a car parked near a Norfolk shopping center, WTKR reported.

Atkinson had not been seen since July 19, the same day he posted his final message on Facebook:

“Good bye… I can’t do this any more.”

Family members who were unable to reach him after the Facebook post shared fliers online hoping someone would help locate him.

Atkinson, a Michigan native, was stationed on the USS Mitscher at Naval Station Norfolk.

His body was found Monday near a shopping center on Hampton Boulevard in Norfolk, not far from the base.

Police confirmed the identity on Wednesday.

While foul play was not suspected in Atkinson’s death, the investigation into how he died remained ongoing.
