RICHMOND, Va. – Only days after reaching out to the Richmond community for help, Richmond Animal Care and Control has raised their goal of $43,020 after city budget cuts left the shelter short of funds.

“We are jumping up and down at the shelter with joy! Thank you 43,020 times over for helping us raise critical funds for our city shelter!” RACC posted on Facebook Friday evening.

The shelter said they have received over 1,000 individual donations, including some for other states.

“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from this incredible community of animal lovers,” the post said.

The outpouring of support comes on five days after the shelter went to Facebook to ask their friends to make up the deficit.

“We are humbled and grateful and our faces hurt from smiling,” the Facebook post continued. “Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for loving RACC. We love you, we love you, we love you!!!”

Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation sayid they will use the donated funds to support the medical care and treatment of their animals.

RACC previously said because of the budget cuts they would have to pull money from vet care and some animals would not get the opportunities that they otherwise would have been presented with.
