Man seriously injured after possible drive-by shooting in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. -- A man has been seriously injured after a shooting in Petersburg Friday afternoon.

Police said at approximately 1:30 p.m. they were called to the area of the 1000 block of High Street for a shooting.

When police arrived they found a man with a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. The victim has been taken to Southside Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Witnesses told police they gunshot possibly came from a vehicle that was in the area at the time the man was shot.

Shortly after that shooting, another shooting was reported about five blocks away in the area of North South Street and Washington Street where three vehicles were struck by gunfire.

No injuries were reported in the second shooting. Witnesses reported at least a dozen gunshots were fired by two different guns.

Police are investigating to see if the two incidents are related.

"We're not sure of the connection, we're investigating that at this time, to see if they're connected at all.  We do have a direction of travel that could substantiate same," said Petersburg Det. James Darington.

Petersburg police said they are looking for a silver four door car in connection to the first shooting.
