West Hartford, CT — One West Hartford homeowner had a close encounter with a bear after the animal got into their home on Friday morning, reported WFSB.

The bear entered the home at 110 High Wood Rd. through a rear sliding screen door. West Hartford Police Captain Jeffrey Rose said the animal “tore the bottom part of the screen off.”

Jeff Grody, who owns the home, said he heard the noise and then, spotted the animal in his den. Grody said he left his home and called police. While waiting for the officers’ arrival, the bear ran away.

Police determined that the bear entered and exited the home through the same rear sliding screen door.

Rose said there was “no other damage to the house.”

“To everyone’s knowledge, did not eat any food or sleep in anyone’s bed,” Rose said.

“The bear did drink the nectar from a hummingbird feeder in the back yard,” Rose said.
