WOODSTOCK, Va. — A Virginia woman was charged with five counts of Animal Cruelty after Shenandoah County Sheriff’s deputies were called to her Woodstock home to investigate reports of a dead cat buried in her front yard.

“After deputies smelled the scent of Ammonia from outside the residence, they obtained permission to enter in hazmat gear, where they found 17 malnourished cats covered in fleas,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook. “The residence had feces on the floors and there was no food or water for the animals. The house was deemed inadequate living conditions for the animals and they were seized from the residence.”

Cat owner Deborah Kay Baker was ordered to appear in court on September 9.

Anyone willing to help foster/adopt the seized cats was asked to call Sgt. Erin Brogan at the Sheriff’s Office at 540-459-6100.
