WASHINGTON -- Virginia Senator Tim Kaine told an audience in Northern Virginia that he does not expect Hillary Clinton to make an announcement about her vice presidential running mate until the weekend.

Kaine and former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack have been named leading candidates by political analysts.

Even former president Bill Clinton would like to see his wife choose Kaine, the New York Times reported.

Despite the hype, Kaine is trying to keep grounded in Virginia.

"I went through the process in 2008, so I kind of know the rhythm of it," Kaine said. "'I' m glad that I do, but a decision is very late, I don't expect a decision will be made, announced until the weekend between the two conventions so and that's all I really know right now. It's wonderful to be mentioned, but I love my job and trying not to over think it but it's been a very exciting last few weeks."

When asked if he had booked a flight to Florida this weekend where Clinton was expected to make her announcement, Kaine replied with a laugh.

"No flights booked," he said. "But I'm checking the Greyhound schedule."
