RICHMOND, Va. -- Dominion Virginia Power believes crews will have power fully restored to Central Virginia by Friday afternoon.

More than 100,000 Dominion customers lost power when severe storms ripped through the area Tuesday afternoon. All but 5,900 customers have since had their power restored.

"Areas like Stratford Hills in the City of Richmond and Bon Air in North Chesterfield were hardest hit with pockets of catastrophic damage. Much of the damage is in heavily wooded areas and many of our facilities are located in back yards and areas difficult to access with traditional equipment," a Dominion spokesperson said. "The vast majority of customers will be restored today however, there will be some areas that require a total rebuild, and in those cases, restoration may be closer to 1 p.m. on Friday."

For a more specific estimate on when your power will be restored, visit www.dom.com or call 1-866-DOM-HELP.

"We never want our customers to experience power outages and we know they are harder to bear when the weather is hot," the Dominion spokesperson continued. "Once again temperatures are forecasted to be near 90 and just as we are reminding our crews to be mindful of the heat and stay hydrated, we want our customers to heed the same advice."
