RICHMOND, Va. — Thousands of homes across Central Virginia remain without power Wednesday night after severe storms hit the area Tuesday evening.

The majority of the remaining outages are in Chesterfield and South Richmond, who received the brunt of the storm with downed power-lines and trees.

As of midnight Thursday, Dominion Virginia Power reported more than 8,000 Metro/ Tri-Cities customers remain without power. This includes 2,689 customers in Chesterfield and 5,456 in the city of Richmond.

"Dominion will work hard and safely to make repairs. We know customers are anxious to have their electricity restored," a Dominion spokeswoman said. "We are also very aware of the heat and the discomfort that comes with not having working AC at this time. Just as we are reminding our crews to take precautions from the heat and keep hydrated, we urge our customers to do the same."

Downed wires

Stay away from all downed trees and downed wires. You can’t tell if a power line is energized by looking. If the power line is energized, the tree may be energized too. Call 1-866-DOM-HELP to report downed wire. False reporting delays restoration and can put people in harm’s way, so please only report downed wire if you see it.

Report outages on any mobile device at dom.com or by calling 1-866-366-4357.
