RICHMOND, Va. -- Meet six-year-old Caroline.
She may look familiar because she is the face of Anthem LemonAid this year.
In 2015, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common type of childhood cancer.
“It’s been a real sad thing for me to have. And I’ve been really worried if I never had it go away, but it has gone away a little bit.
In fact, Caroline is now in maintenance care.
That means she only has to go to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU once a month. She is on track to be finished with her treatment in August 2017.
Now, Caroline is raising money to help fight child cancer.
CBS 6 joined her during a recent Anthem LemonAid fundraiser.
“I got a lot of customers and a lot of money,” as she looked in awe at the money she helped raise. “That’s real cash!”
CBS 6 Chief Meteorologist Zach Daniel, with help from Union Bank and Trust had a special surprise for Caroline.
“I do want some lemonade and I have something I want to give to you,” he said.
Zach presented Caroline with a $500.00 check for her lemonAid stand.
“Thank you!” Caroline said with a big smile.
“Just know that all of us, the whole CBS family and all of Richmond will all be thinking about you and fighting for you,” said Zach with a hug.
By participating in Anthem LemonAid, 100% of funds raised support the Infusion Center in CHoR’s Hematology and Oncology Clinic, where children receive chemotherapy, blood transfusions and other immune system boosting infusions.
