CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Family and friends are remembering Anne Davis, the recent William & Mary graduate and a Monacan High school alumna killed while cycling for charity.

Davis and another rider, Laura Stark, were both hit by the same vehicle in Iona, Idaho, Wednesday.

"These are the hardest days of our lives," Anne's parents, Bill and Susan Davis, said.

The 22-year-old was on a ride with 27 cyclists as part of the group Bike & Buildwas traveling across the country from Virginia to Oregon to raise money for affordable housing. They were in Idaho Falls to help with a project sponsored by Habitat for Humanity, according to affiliate KIDK.

"Monday was [her brother] Rob’s birthday, Tuesday was our anniversary, and Wednesday she was struck," Bill Davis said. "She called Monday and we all had a chance to talk to her and hear what was going on."

Bill Davis said her daughter was killed while doing something she loved.

"She was a true believer in people, and community and we saw that in her faith," he said.

Anne had just finished her undergraduate studies at William & Mary with a double major in Environmental Policy and Sociology.

In May 2015, she participated in  the Atlantic Coast Pipeline Resistance Ride, organized by the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition (VSEC). She had never been farther west than Kentucky, according to herbike fundraising profile.

Anne Davis was a devout Christian who worked to help others.

After the bike trip, she planned to return to William & Mary and start work as a hunger and nutrition fellow at the Office of Community Engagement.

Zach Roberts met Anne at Richmond Chrysalis, a organization that builds leaders through Jesus.

"We’re all in shock right now," Roberts said. "She was a loving person. There’s no clear answer how or why something like this would happen."

He said her mantra was "just a small dot in a huge incredible world trying to do big things."

The driver is 33-year-old Patricia Beyer, according to investigators. Beyer was also taken to the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

Stark, who is from Michigan, remains in critical condition at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC).

No one has been charged, but the investigation remains pending.

Anne Davis' funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bon Air United Methodist Church at 1645 Buford Road in Richmond.

A visitation will take place Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel at 1020 Huguenot Road in Midlothian.
