COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- Police are investigating after a 13-year-old boy said he was approached by two men in a white van Tuesday night near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Dick Ewell Avenue in Colonial Heights.

The child said two men in a white utility truck approached him at about 8 p.m.

"I was walking down when [the men in] a white van asked me ‘We're trying to find this dog's home, is this yours?'" 13-year-old Chris said.

The men were holding a small black and white dog.

He told the men the dog was not his, and the men drove off.

"And then right after that I was like, 'This isn't right something’s going on here,'" Chris said.

He ran home and told his parents. His parents called police.

"It's just scary that your kids are out here playing and you just don't know what could happen because around here there's a lot of young children that are out playing in the streets just thinking it's innocent and don't think it can be something life-changing for them," Chris’ mother said.

The van was last seen headed north on Hamilton.

Investigators described the driver as a Hispanic man with facial hair. The passenger was simply described as a white man.

"I know all these neighborhood children out here so it's scary to know that one of them could've been taken,” neighbor Nicole Dressler said.

Police said there was no indication the men wanted to abduct the child, but they called the situation suspicious.

Back in March, there was a similar incident involving two men in a red pickup truck who stopped two young girls.

Police said there was no indication the incident were related.
