HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A local nonprofit is working to steer kids away from drugs and violence, and is asking for the public’s help for an upcoming fundraiser.
Youth Ministry Entertainment (Y-ME) is hosting an all-night jump-a-thon at Jumpology Friday, July 8, and is looking for sponsors to help pay for students who can't afford the fee.
Y-Me is a local non-profit that features three programs including interactive after school programs, violence prevention programs, and community service. Leader Mr. V said dozens of inner city youth volunteers have been cleaning up litter and visiting nursing homes as a part of the group.
He said his goal is to give the youth guidance and someone to relate to.
“It's all about relating to them and speaking their language… Letting them see that there's another way to handle problems and life's circumstances," he said.
The Jumpology event will feature an empowerment workshop that is designed to help kids with life skills.
Mr. V says donations to the nonprofit will be used to pay for this fall's anti-violence teen summit and youth dance programs.
