ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — A former middle school teacher in Albemarle County has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.

Albemarle County Police Department officials said 26-year-old Amelia Tat was charged with two felony counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship.

“The arrest was based on an ACPD investigation into alleged sexual activity between Tat and a student that took place in 2015 while Tat was a teacher at Jack Jouett Middle School,” Albemarle County Police Department Public Information Officer Madeline J. Curott said.

Tat, who was arrested by Lynchburg Police Wednesday, also faces one felony count of carnal knowledge of a minor in Lynchburg.

Officials said their investigation into this case is ongoing.
