KILMARNOCK, Va. -- The owners of NN Burger said they hoped to catch a thief by sharing photos and video of a crime that occurred at their Kilmarnock restaurant.

Someone broke into the restaurant on Irvington Road early Saturday money and stole money from the safe, co-owner Jay Wolfson said.

In addition to that night's sales, the stolen money included tips and cash collected for their charity of the month -- the Tappahannock Free Clinic.

Wolfson said he believed the thief was somehow connected to the restaurant, either a current or past employee -- given the ease with which he got into the safe.

"It's really terrible," Wolfson said. "We try to be a big part of the community."

The restaurant has offered a $250 reward and "eternal gratitude" for information that leads to an arrest.

"We want to get it behind us so we can focus on making great burgers," he said.

Wolfson added Kilmarnock Police have done a great job investigating so far.

"This was an isolated incident connected to the NN Burger solely," Kilmarnock Police Chief Michael Bedell said.

He said investigators planned to send security video to the state crime lab for enhancement and expected arrests to be announced in a week or two.
