Posted

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — Atlantic Beach remained opened after a shark bit an 11-year-old boy who was surfing near Fort Macon State Park Saturday afternoon.

The child suffered a severe wound on his foot, Atlantic Beach Fire Captain Casey Arthur said.

Officials called the young surfer’s injuries non-life threatening.

The Saturday afternoon incident was the second shark bite reported at Atlantic Beach so far this summer.

A small shark bit an 18-year-old man on June 11 while he was swimming, causing deep wounds to his hand.
