HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Short Pump Park reopened Saturday, much to the delight of families and their dogs.
Recent renovations to the park have added a water play area with spray fountains and an enclosed dog park.
“Designed to keep children cool in the summer, the irrigated central lawn features 18 water jets that create a fountain of bouncing water,” Henrico County posted online. “While children play in the water or on the playground, dogs also have an area to play. Dogs of all shapes, sizes, and pedigrees are welcome at the county’s second off-leash dog park. The dog park area is approximately one acre in size, has a six-foot tall enclosed fence with two areas – one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. The dog park features a double-gated entry with a mulch and sod play surface and will be open from dawn to dusk.”
Short Pump Park is located on Pump Road between West Broad Street and Three Chopt Road.
“Envisioned over 10 years ago and funded by the 2005 Bond Referendum, Short Pump Park is a wonderful addition to the Henrico Park System,” the county continued. “Residents can look forward to future phases of development that may include additional trails and picnic shelters, as well as renovations of the existing parking lot, athletic fields and restroom/concession building.”
