RICHMOND, Va., -- Large debris piles still sit on Richmond sidewalks as homeowners continue to clean up just a week after severe storms devastated the area.

Richmond Public Works crews were out Friday morning in some of the hardest areas, like the Bellevue and Ginter Park neighborhoods, cleaning up mounds of trees and limbs.

Ann and Mike Andrus live on Stanhope Avenue and had a large tree dangling from a downed power line in front of their home.

"In the morning you looked out and it looked like a war zone," Ann said.

Many of the trees that now sit in piles were brought down by a strong storm June 16.

CBS 6 drove around Friday and found Hermitage, Seminary, Patterson, and Monument Avenues had some of the worst destruction in the city.

Chuck Bateman rents out his home to two tenants on Bellevue Avenue, who both lost cars in the storm.

"You should’ve seen it on Friday," Bateman said, "It was really, really bad. This is good compared to that."

We reached out to Richmond Public Works to see if they have a timeline of when streets should be free of debris. They have not returned out request.

But, the service's twitter account did tweet out that residents can call 3-1-1 (646-7000) to have brush picked up if it's sitting near the curb or edge of the alley.

"I'm thinking it’s going to take weeks, and months to clean everything up," Mike Andrus said.
