RICHMOND, Va. -- If you have an electric car, Dominion Virginia power wants to help you.

Dominion has a pilot program to respond to a growing interest in electric cars. It also gives customers an incentive to charge the cars at night, when the demand for electricity is typically its lowest.

One customer who drives a Nissan Leaf is on a special rate plan and said he is still able to save on his energy bill.

“... in 12 months, by using the new Dominion electric car pricing plan, I've been able to save $200 on my electric bill even though I use significantly more electricity plugging it in every night,” said John Barrar.

Dominion believes there could be as many as 60,000 electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars in its service territory by 2021.
