HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- A Richmond family is thanking two Virginia State Police troopers for rescuing their Chihuahua Fluffy from Interstate 95.

Missing from home for several days, someone spotted the dog this week along the interstate in Hanover about posted it on Facebook.

Fluffy's owner called police to ask for permission to stop on the interstate to rescue Fluffy.

Since that is not safe, Troopers Lewis and Huntsinger arrived to bring the pooch home.

"The troopers met with [Fluffy's owner] and went to the area [where Fluffy was last seen]," Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. "They drove two or three miles up the shoulder attempting to call the dog on the public address system."

Despite their efforts, Fluffy was nowhere to be seen. Then a passerby stopped and said she had seen the dog in the woods.

Shortly thereafter, the dog's owners and the troopers located and rescued Fluffy.

A second Chihuahua -- Chloe -- escaped the family's home remains missing.

The Chihuahuas live in a home near the Philip Morris plant in South Richmond. That means the dogs traveled some 25 miles in a week.

"She has two small children and they would love to have the other dog back," Vick said.
