CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A severe storm knocked a tree onto a house on Sedgefield Terrace in Chesterfield Thursday morning.

No one inside the Woodlake-area home was hurt when the tree fell onto an upstairs room.

"That's a huge tree, for that thing to be uprooted, it's crazy," Woodlake resident Bill Stokes said.

Neighbors described the storm like a tornado or a hurricane.

While there were no tornado watches or warning in Central Virginia Thursday morning, there was a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Chesterfield County at the time of the storm.

In the Bensley area, strong winds uprooted a massive oak tree. It fell on a resident's backyard garage off Strathmore Road.

"I heard a line come down and I heard a pop!" neighbor Kent Newton said.

That pop was a 100-year-old oak tree. The 92-year-old person who lives in the home was asleep at the time.

"The rain was coming down hard blowing," said Newton.

The tree destroyed a restored motorcycle, lawn mowers and a freezer.

The storm knocked out power to more than 6,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers in Central Virginia.

The majority of the outages were in Henrico County and Chesterfield County.

Another Road of Storms

More storms will be possible Thursday afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches the area. Damaging winds and large hail will be possible with any storms that develop. Scattered showers will continue through Friday, with drier air clearing everything out Friday night.
