RICHMOND, Va. -- A Richmond police officer, who was already charged with sexually assaulting and sodomizing a child, now faces a federal charge.

Charles Church is now accused of receiving child pornography last October 11 through November 4, according to the complaint filed in federal court.

According to online court records, Church was issued an arrest warrant for the charges on Monday. Most of the documents have already been sealed by the judge, in order to protect the privacy of the victim.

Church has been locked up at the Richmond City Jail since last year, when he was arrested and charged with two counts of raping and sodomizing a 12 year old girl.

If convicted on the initial charges, Church faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and would be placed on the sex offender registry.

The maximum punishment for the separate federal charge against Church is 20 years in prison.

Church is a 12-year-veteran of the Richmond Police Department, where he has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the case. He was most recently assigned to the Third Precinct.
