CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Neighbors who want to speak out for or against a proposed water park in Chesterfield County are invited to attend a public hearing Tuesday night. No vote is expected to take place at the planning commission meeting regarding the water park near Clover Hill High School.

Developers hope to transform 105 acres of land at Genito Road and Genito Place into a recreational destination. The envisioned water park is less like water parks at Kings Dominion and Water Country USA, and more like a place to water ski and whitewater raft.

Initial plans also called for apartments, shopping, a music venue, and even a brewery.

The size of the project has some in Chesterfield concerned about added traffic and noise.

“Just to be good neighbors, we commissioned a company to do a noise impact analysis and they’ll come up with a heat map that shows what the sound levels will be in the future around different areas on property,” agent Brett Burkhart said.

Votes on the project would likely take place after those sound level tests are completed and comments made at public hearings were considered.

Tuesday night’s hearing will take place at the public meeting room on Iron Bridge Road.

Developers hope to have the initial phase of the water park open in 2018.
