HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico woman arrested for allegedly hosting a drinking party for teenagers inside her home is a teacher’s aide at Glen Allen High School, according to a spokesperson for Henrico County Public Schools.
Henrico Police said officers responded to a “disorderly” call on Kilpatrick Lane on Father’s Day, and found a large number of teenagers gathered at the home drinking alcohol.
Police charged 49-year-old Rebecca Ann Yaniga with two counts of contributing to a juvenile.
Andy Jenks, a spokesperson for Henrico County Public Schools, confirmed Yaniga is an instructional aide for exceptional education students at Glen Allen High School.
“That’s not cool, that’s not cool,” Shay Adegeye, whose nephew attends Glen Allen High School, said.
She said news that a teacher’s aide there was allegedly allowing teens to drink alcohol inside her home surprised her.
“We know the drinking age is 21 and up. That’s just risking your job right there,” Adegeye said.
CBS6 reporter Melissa Hipolit visited Yaniga’s home to get her side of the story, but a man who answered the door told her “no comment.”
Jenks said Yaniga’s contract with the school system ended last Friday when the school year ended.
He said it’s way too early to know if her contract will be renewed.
“Generally speaking we wait for legal process to run its course,” Jenks wrote via text message.
