Second Publix grocery store eyed for Henrico area

GLEN ALLEN, Va. — With one location already in the works and amid talk it’s set to buy local Martin’s stores, it appears Publix isn’t waiting in line to further establish itself in the Richmond market.

Documents filed with the Henrico County Planning Department last week show a Publix store as part of a proposed expansion of the Stuart’s Crossing Shopping Center at 1091 Virginia Center Parkway, a development owned by the real estate arm of Richmond-based spice company C.F. Sauer.

The plans, filed June 10 by Sauer Properties, call for building a 138,095-square-foot shopping center in two phases on about 20 acres off the corner off Brook Road and Virginia Center Parkway. A parking lot with 738 parking spaces is included in the plans.

A rendering made by Freeman Morgan Architects included in the plans shows Publix and T.J. Maxx/Home Goods as tenants on opposite ends of the development with no other named tenants located in between the two retailers.
