RICHMOND, Va. -- It is a muggy start to the day on Thursday. The entire day will be hot and humid, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.

The heat index will easily reach the mid 90s, with a few areas seeing heat index values near 100.

Isolated thunderstorms will be possible during the day, but the better chance for storms will come Thursday night as low pressure approaches the area from the northwest.

Some of the storms will be severe, with large hail and damaging winds.

Lingering showers will be possible through midday Friday, with clearing Friday night as drier air moves into the region.

Saturday and Sunday will be beautiful days, with cool mornings and comfortably warm afternoons.
