RICHMOND, Va. -- The Washington Redskins will be in Richmond for training camp in a few weeks. Thursday, the team announced changes to improve the fan experience this year.

“Each year the goal is to improve the fan experience,” explained Larry Michael, Executive Producer of Media for franchise. “So the Redskins took a look at last year's camp and said ‘what can we add to it?”

Part of the initiative is geared toward enticing visitors in town for camp to stay and explore the Richmond area.

“Hosting the Washington Redskins Training Camp is one of the reasons that Richmond is cool, and Richmond is on fire,” said Katherine O'Donnell, Vice President of Community Relations for Richmond Region Tourism. “We are getting accolade after accolade and visitors are coming in record numbers.”

Road Trip to Richmond Travel Packages are being offered to appeal to those visitors.

The Redskins Richmond Passport Program is also new this year. Fans with the Redskins app can redeem special offers from participating businesses. Richmond restaurants have until the end of the month to apply to participate in the program.

There are changes at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center as well.

A new stage and screen will be added to show live radio broadcasts or social media streaming for fans to connect. A new playground was built for families.

Special events are scheduled including Kids Day, a punt, pass, and kick competition, and A Football Fiesta. That fiesta is the result of a partnership with the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Fans can also expect to see the Legends Showcase, Washington Redskins Cheerleaders summer camp, Family Zone, and Play 60 Playground events.

“I just love being here,” said Leroy Stanford, a Redskins Ambassador involved with Training Camp each year. “I just love the environment.”

“You know with everything going on the world, one thing I know about sports is it brings people together and nothing more than football brings people together,” he added. “I look forward to it.”
