HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Fire officials say crews are “extremely busy” in Henrico County after a line of powerful storms caused damage across Central Virginia Thursday night.
As of 12:15 a.m, Herico Fire spokesman Capt. Taylor Goodman said fire crews had 110 calls pending. These were primarily for trees and wires down as well as some medical calls.
Additionally, police had 80 calls in pending.
Goodman said the department is coordinating with VDOT via VEOC for state road clearance as multiple trees and wires were down across roads.
Additionally, 98,000 residents were without power in the county.
“The emergency operations center is open with fire and police representatives present, department of public works is enroute. Field units will do damage assessments as they respond to calls; damage appears heaviest (based on call volume) in the west and along the Carolina/Laburnum corridor,” Goodman said.
Goodman reminded county residents to call 804-501-5000 for non-emergency, non-life-threatening events like downed trees and wires.
“The public is reminded to call 911 for life threatening emergencies only,” Goodman said.
