GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. -- Nearly 50, of the 200 or so, grave sites at the historic Second Union Baptist Church in Goochland County were damaged by vandals Wednesday night. The vandalism was discovered early Thursday morning.
Many of the 48 headstones knocked over or knocked off grave sites.
Other graves had vandalism to the flower vases.
A surveillance camera captured an image of a white sedan near the church, located on Hadensville-Fife Road, after Wednesday night's bible study.
Members of the church, which was founded in 1865, said they were praying for the people who did the damage and that they hoped those people were brought to justice.
"It would be someone who is familiar with this road, who frequents this area," church member Julia Price said.
The Goochland Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
