COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- Two men were arrested and a third man is wanted in connection to a child abduction in Colonial Heights.

The seven-year-old child, who was forcibly taken from the home Monday night, was later found safe in North Carolina, according to Colonial Heights Police.

The child's mother told police a former boyfriend showed up at her Lakeview Park Road home Monday night and, along with two other men, attempted to force her and her child to leave with them.

"The suspect was able to force the child into the vehicle, however the mother was able to get away and contact police," a Colonial Heights Police spokesman said. "During the incident the suspects also took several personal items belonging to the victim, including her cell phone."

As police worked with Virginia State Police and the FBI to issue an AMBER Alert, the child was found safe -- 65-miles away -- by police Weldon, North Carolina.

That was shortly before midnight.

"Colonial Heights Police are in the process of extraditing two suspects who are currently incarcerated in North Carolina," a police spokesman said.

Travis Deon Bennett, 33, and Troy Elmore Patterson, 19, both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, were charged with Felony Abduction.
