NEW YORK — About 175,000 toy jewelry kits imported from China are being recalled due to high lead content that can pose a risk to children.

The recalled product, Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations, includes three different versions: the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine, the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Gem Charm and Slider Bracelets, and the My Look Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine.

The problematic part included in all of them is the slider bracelet, which has high concentration of lead. Lead can cause brain damage if ingested, especially by children.

“Lead has a devastating effect on developing children and has no place in children’s products, especially toys,” said Elliot Kaye, chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The kits were sold at some of the nation’s largest retail chains, including Kmart, Toys R Us, Walmart and Target. They cost between $10 and $30.

Consumers are advised to take the products away from their children immediately and to contact the importer, LaRosa Industries, for a refund. They can call (855) 345-4693, email recall@laroseindustries.com or go to the website at http://www.laroseindustries.com and click on the “recall” tab.
