FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – The man police say intentionally ran his Hummer into a Tyson’s Corner diner and set himself on fire, is now charged with murder for the incident.

Samuel Ovie Abutoh, 59, of Springfield, has been charged with second degree murder, felony destruction of property, arson: burning or destroying an occupied public building, and arson: burning or destroying personal property.

Abutoh was previously charged with malicious wounding, but the charge was revised following the passing of Andrew Sheren, 74, who was struck by the SUV while walking into the Silver Diner.

Police said Abutoh intentionally drove his Hummer, into the restaurant multiple times, then poured liquid on himself and set himself on fire. A Silver Diner spokesperson said the driver worked at the diner, but had been on bereavement leave.

Abutoh has been transported from the District of Columbia to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
