JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police have released the name of the 39-year-old man killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 64 east Friday afternoon.
Troopers said the accident happened at 2:24 p.m. when a 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound. The driver ran off the road, over corrected and then lost control of the SUV.
The vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting the driver. The driver was transported to Riverside Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he later died of his injuries.
Police have identified the driver as Timmy Nelson Clary of Norfolk. Clary was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
State police said speed played a factor in the accident, but it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
