Richmond man charged in Midlothian Village Apartments homicide

RICHMOND, Va. — Police have arrested and charged a Richmond man in connection with a homicide and double shooting at the Midlothian Village apartments in South Richmond on May 9.

Larry M. Scott, 31, of Richmond was arrested Friday morning and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Rashawn A. Brathwaite, 23. Scott also had outstanding warrants from Chesterfield County.

Richmond Police credited the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in the arrest on Scott without incident.

At approximately 11:13 a.m., Monday, May 9, officers responded to the double shooting in the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike, which prompted a lockdown at George Wythe High School.

When officers arrived they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims, one of whom had life-threatening injuries, were transported to a local hospital. Rashawn A. Brathwaite, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later that day. The second victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Detectives believe the motive of the shooting was robbery.
