CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Chesterfield leaders did not have to look far to find the next county administrator.
Joseph P. Casey, who was named county administrator during a Thursday afternoon press conference, had been deputy county manager in nearby Henrico County.
He will assume his new role, taking over for the retiring Jay Stegmaier, on July 1.
"I want to thank the Board of Supervisors for their confidence in me and recognize the collective efforts of their time and dedication in recruiting and selecting this position," Casey said. "Their commitment to serving the citizens and businesses of Chesterfield in a cooperative, customer service-oriented manner was a major factor in my decision to apply."
Prior to his time in Henrico, Casey was deputy county administrator and finance director in Hanover County.
"Mr. Casey comes to us with an impressive background of knowledge, accomplishment and government service," Midlothian District Supervisor Leslie Haley said. "This board has full confidence that Mr. Casey will work with our staff to continue to elevate Chesterfield County as a premier community."
Casey earned a doctorate degree in public policy and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He also has a master’s degree in public administration from VCU and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Richmond.
Casey and his wife Suzanne have three sons, Harrison, Patrick and Jack.
