RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Fire’s Department River Rescue discovered female remains in the James River, near the Mayo Bridge Monday afternoon.

This comes after fire crews received a call at 10:35 p.m. Sunday for a person in the water near the Manchester Bridge.

Police have identified the woman as, Ronda M. Moss, 48, of Henrico. Police said Moss was found at approximately 2 p.m.

The Richmond Police Department has begun a death investigation into Monday’s findings. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Sunday officers arrived and found an unoccupied vehicle on the bridge. The Richmond Fire Department was called to assist in the search.

At one point fire crews spotted the person in the water, but then lost sight of the person, Richmond Fire spokesman Lt. Chris Armstrong said.

The Richmond Fire Department and Richmond Police Department officers searched the area and downriver Sunday night without finding the woman.

Because of the rainy weather, and bad conditions on the river, crews suspended the search just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Monday morning the search resumed and the body was found and recovered.

Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Michael Mocello at (804) 646-6775.

This is a developing story. Anyone with additional information can submit a news tip here.
