DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- Folks in Dinwiddie came together Sunday to help raise money for a woman who was seriously injured in a freak accident on her farm Mother’s Day weekend.

Hundreds turned out for the Katy Daniel Benefit Concert, BBQ and Cornhole Tournament at Whippernock Marina.

Daniel is facing years of surgeries after a farming accident tore her scalp from her head on May 8.

In the days following the 20-year-old’s ponytail becoming snagged in a piece of equipment, the #KatyStrong hashtag has lit up social media and sparked a series of community event to help fund Daniel's medical bills.

Friends said while she has a long road to recovery ahead, the tremendous community support is helping her stay positive.

"It's a beautiful thing, got awesome people,” Jesse Crouch, Daniel's boyfriend, said. “You couldn't ask for a better community. It's for a good cause. Katy appreciates it, the whole family appreciates it."

Organizers estimate they raised more than $5,000 at Sunday's event.

The GoFundMe account for Katy had reached more than $33,000 as of Sunday evening. An anonymous donor said if that goal was reached by May 22, he would match the $15,000 raised. But the page hit $15,000 last weekend, so the mystery donor made a $15,000 contribution to the fund.
