RICHMOND, Va. — The cast and crew of Mercy Street is back in town filming episodes for season two of the Civil War drama. The show, which airs on PBS, utilizes Central Virginia settings, including those in Richmond and Petersburg. But when the lights go down and the camera stops rolling, what do the actors and actresses do in their spare time?
For that answer, one must dive into their social media posts and pictures, some of which are seen by tens of thousands of people around the world. So what impression of Richmond does the cast give off? Here’s a glimpse into how the cast of Mercy Street is spending its time in Richmond.
Josh Radnor
Actor Josh Radnor (Dr. Jedediah Foster), has not posted a lot about Richmond, but did indicate he appreciated the display of facial hair on display while attending a concert at the National.
Some very impressive beards at the Trampled By Turtles show in Richmond tonight.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Tara Summers
Actresses Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Mary Phinney) and Tara Summer (Anne Hastings) showed up recently for a dance workout in Scott’s Addition.
McKinley Belcher III
Actor McKinley Belcher III (Samuel Diggs) has not posted many photos from around town, but did share these behind the scene moments from the set in Petersburg.
Hannah James
Hannah James (Emma Green) grew up in Virginia and makes mention of the fact that it was good to be home in many of her posts. She also shared this behind the scenes shot from Petersburg. Notice the cars in the background. #TVMagic
AnnaSophia Robb
AnnaSophia Robb (Alice Green) likes to share funny photos from Snapchat. She also seemed to appreciate when the sun finally came out after days and days of rain.
Jack Falahee
Jack Falahee (Frank Stringfellow) appears to be using Richmond as his personal training ground for an upcoming race. You may see him on one of Richmond running trails along the river or on a bicycle along the Capital Trail.
Since you made it this far down the post, I will throw in a bonus photo.
While he is not on Mercy Street, actor Owain Yeoman was in Richmond filming another historical drama — Turn. Yeoman, who you might recognize as Wayne Rigsby from The Mentalist, plays Benedict Arnold on the Revolutionary War drama which airs on AMC.
While Yeoman was in town filming, he visited one of Richmond’s most beautiful places — Lewis Ginter.
