CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Chesterfield County Public Schools held a retirement celebration Thursday for the more than 300 employees retiring from the school system this school year.
The employees were honored during the ceremony, held at the Career and Technical Center on Hull Street, where students studying culinary arts and baking catered the event.
Each retiree was called forward individually to be personally thanked by School Board members and school division leaders and received a small gift.
A total of 306 retirees worked for about 6,800 years combined for Chesterfield County, a Chesterfield County spokesperson said in a press release.
The employee’s jobs range from teachers, assistant principals, principals, and custodians.
The school system highlighted some retiring employees who have dedicated their professional lives to Chesterfield County Schools:
- Sue Little, Midlothian Middle math teacher, 43 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools and a total of 51 years of teaching
- Gail Ledbetter, Matoaca High assistant principal, 44 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools
- Ted Salmon, Cosby High student activities director, 42 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools and a total of 43 years of service
- Jerry Green, custodian team leader, 40 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools
- Pete Koste, Manchester High principal, 39 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools
- Wayne Mehrer, Clover Hill High student activities director, 39 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools
