DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — The family of Nick Sokol called the 26-year-old father a caring and loving man.

Sokol was killed Sunday morning when his car ran off Route 1 in Dinwiddie and struck a tree.

Sokol was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

“Nick was an amazing person, he was a wonderful father and the most amazing man I have ever fell in love with,” Sierra Poole said.

Poole and Sokol welcomed a baby boy last fall.

“This just seems so unreal,” Sierra said. “He was wonderful, helpful, caring, and loved his son more than anything. Bentley [their son] was his better half.”

Sokol was born in Colonial Heights and moved in Dinwiddie as a teenager.

He attended Dinwiddie High School and earned his GED, according to his mother.

He recently worked as a welder and in construction.

Nick’s mother, Mary Coles, said her family was now trying to raise money to help pay funeral costs.

Funeral plans could not be made until the money, between $8,000 – $10,000 was raised.

The family set-up a GoFundMe page to help collect funeral funds.
