RICHMOND, Va. – Thousands are without power after fast-moving storms barreled through Central Virginia Saturday afternoon.
Dominion Virginia Power reported more than 6,400 customers were without power as of 6:30 p.m.

- Petersburg, 2,900
- Richmond -- 532
As of 1: a.m., more than 750 customers were still without power.

Dominion Power officials had said they expected to have electricity restored by 1 a.m.
Their crews were busy after Saturday evening into Sunday morning as they worked to repair lines damaged when high winds downed trees.
Carol Gray said a large tree that fell in her backyard in Chesterfield knocked out power to her neighbors.
She said she was sitting on her sun porch when she saw dark clouds forming and the wind begin to pick up.
“It just happened that quick. It was nothing and then it was something,” Gray said. “I heard something cracking and I thought it might hit the sun porch, so I got up and headed to the house and about that time it was crash, boom.”
No one was injured.
