LOUISA COUNTY, Va. -- Nearly seven years ago, a baby boy was found abandoned, naked and left in the grass of someone’s front yard in Henrico County.

The newborn was left on the lawn for close to six hours, until a woman walking her dog, heard the boy crying.

That was in August 2009.

After a search, police were never able to track down the baby’s mother and she never came forward.

Just under a year later, Terrence and Bridget Allen officially adopted the boy and named him Nehemiah. CBS 6 cameras were inside the Henrico County courtroom for the adoption ceremony.

Terrence and Bridget Allen struggled for years to have a child of their own. Then, Nehemiah came into their lives and changed everything.

We have followed the family for Nehemiah’s first birthday and his first day of school three years ago.

CBS 6 wanted to check back in with Nehemiah and the Allen family to see how things are going.

Nehemiah is now six years old.

His dad, Terrence Allen tells CBS 6, Nehemiah is now a first grader in Louisa County and excels at reading and math. He also loves football and plays for a Beaverdam team.

Allen said his son’s favorite NFL player is Russell Wilson and his youth team recently played at Wilson's alma mater, Collegiate, where he scored six touchdowns.

Allen described his son as charismatic and charming, which sometimes gets him into trouble for talking in class.

Terrence and Bridget Allen said Nehemiah has been a blessing in their lives and they are proud to be his parents.
